The Origins of Mother’s Day.
In 1908 Anna Jarvis, who had recently lost her own mother to illness, wanted to create a day to remember her, so she decided that the 2nd Sunday in May would be a good day. A ceremony was being held at St Thomas Methodist Church in Grafton West Virginia, and Anna handed out hundreds of white carnations to all women who attended, which started the practice of people presenting flowers on Mother's Day. Recognizing her hard work and determination, Mother’s Day became a recognized holiday in 1914. President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation, that made Mother’s Day a legal holiday.
